Keeping Up with Routt County

Happenings Around the Yampa Valley

If you are someone who likes to let the holiday season linger, don't forget about the free Christmas Tree Recycling at Emerald Park - safely dispose of your natural Christmas tree for free through the end of February.  See details here.

Mahogany Ridge, the new lift-served advanced and expert terrain area at Steamboat is now open.  This new terrain is within the ski area boundary.  Steamboat Resort indicates that this terrain has long been a popular destination for extreme skiers and riders who were previously accessing the terrain via external boundary access point and that by bringing this terrain within the boundary, it provides guests with a better experience thru increased extreme/advanced terrain offerings, while more importantly providing opportunity for additional safety by allowing Ski Patrol to monitor and mitigate the area for avalanche conditions.  Learn more about Full Steam Ahead, the base redevelopment and on-mountain improvement project here.

If you've skied until your legs can't take any more, continue to be immersed in the theme of skiing while sitting down by taking in a ski film.  "Advice for Girls" puts a spotlight on the collective experience of women in the ski industry. Film will be screened at CMC on January 20th - more details here.

While we sometimes forget, amidst the storms that continue to bless us with powder, but Steamboat Springs really is more than just a ski town.  Here is an insight for arts and culture offerings in the valley.

If you are interested in local history, you've likely already toured the Tread of Pioneers Museum in Steamboat - but have you explored the Museum of Northwest Colorado in Craig?  From dinosaurs, to Native Americans, to early explorers, The Museum of Northwest Colorado tells the story of one of the richest histories in the American West.  With over 15,000 artifacts and one of the most expanisve collections in the West of cowboy and gunfighter collectibles, the museum serves as a hub for the public, authors and  researchers.  Admission is free - check here for hours and information.

Short Term Rental Application Info:

As many of you know, Steamboat Springs recently underwent a significant shift in their short term rental policy. In addition to injecting an overlay zone on developments and neighborhoods that are allowed to rent nightly, they have initiated a short term rental (STR) application process.
